Mezban is known as a social festival of the Chittagong district. Mezbani means arranging a specific period for eating for the guests. It can be held on the occasions of death or death anniversary, birth or birth anniversary, own successes, the inauguration of a new business, entry into a new house, the birth of a child in a family, akika and sunnate-khatna, ear-piercing of girls and naming of the newly born.
Mezban is known as a Mejjan in the local dialect of Chittagong. Mezbani is the most popular and widely happened in the Chittagong district. People belonging to all ages used to come on the declared or the specified date to eat or enjoying the Mezbani food enthusiastically. It is a very ancient heritage of Chittagong. Mezban and Mezbani are symbols of social prestige.
Let's see the food items of the Mezban --
(a) First of all, spicy meat cooked with a lot of red chilies & various kinds of masala which are hand made
(b) Sour and spicy broth made from the tubular bone of a cow, which is known as nawla kanji
(c) One kind of the pulse which is cooked after peeling the skin of beans and then crushing them and cooking them properly known as Bhuna daal;
